Brief of Incident

On dated 02.06.2019 during Anti-Naxal operation 05 personnel were injured and one of them got Martyred namely No 140992165 CT/GD Late Niraj Chetry, who belongs from District- Sonitpur(Assam).

Specific input was received that a group of Naxals are present in the forest area near to Kathalia village PS – Raneswar, Dist – Dumka Jharkhand. The input was corroborated and watch was kept on their movements. After confirmation and after discussion/planning, a joint operation plan was finalized involving troops from 35th Bn. SSB Dumka and State police.

Two teams led by Sh. Narpat Singh, DC with two other officers of 35th Bn. SSB and Sh. Emanuel Baskey, ASP, Dumka assembled at 35th Bn. SSB Dumka. At about 2130 Hrs all the OPS parties arrived at Bn. Hqr Bijaypur, further OPS briefing was done by Commandant 35th Bn, SP Dumka & 2I/C 35th Bn SSB. After briefing, teams proceeded on 02.06.2019 at 0110 hrs for Kathalia from 35th Bn Hrs to Titadih by vehicle and Titadih to Kathalia by foot. At about 0230 hrs the parties arrived at Titadih where after de-briefing all the parties took cross country route to reach the Operational area.

At around 0350 hrs, suddenly heavy fire came on our striking team from foothill of the hillock side which was retaliated. During exchange of fire our troops took position and after firing was stopped it was found that five of our personnel i.e No 140992165 CT/GD Niraj chetry, No 130421691 CT/GD Rajesh Kumar Rai, No. 110695102 CT/GD Karan Kumar, No. 140422449 CT/GD Satish Kr Gujar & No.110420671 CT/GD Soun Kumar have sustained bullet injuries. Immediately party commander Sh Narpat Singh informed the situation to Commandant. Immediately Sh. Sanjay Kr Gupta, 2I/C rushed to the place of occurrence and reached there at about 0430 hrs. Injured personnel were shifted to Sadar Hospital Dumka (Jharkhand) at about 0500 hrs. During treatment CT/GD Niraj Chetry sustained to his injury. CT/GD Rajesh Kumar Rai had sustained major bullet injuries in his both thighs & CT/GD Karan Kumar had sustained bullet injury in his left hand and forehead and both have been shifted to Medica Hospital Ranchi by Chopper for further specialized treatment. No 140422449 CT/GD Satish Kr Gurjar & No 110420671 CT/GD Sonu Kumar sustained minor injuries and they remained admitted at Sadar Hospital Dumka under observation of Doctor.

During treatment in Sadar Hospital Dumka, CT/GD NirajChetry got martyred. Mortal remains of Late Niraj Chetry was sent by Commandant 35th  BN  SSB Dumka from Dumka to Ranchi and further on dated 03.06.2019 from Ranchi to Guwahati via Kolkata Airport escorted by ASI/GD Ashok Chand Mandal of 35th Bn to his native place for further funeral process.
